During an investor update Thursday, Monster Beverages said it would launch a new performance energy drink called Reign Total Body Fuel in March with six flavors. The brand would compete with fast-growing Bang Energy Drink. A new Dragon Tea energy offering also is planned. Plus, Monster said arbitration over Coke’s plan to launch a Coke-branded energy drink overseas is “moving expeditiously” and that “we are in the process of amicably resolving this disagreement.” An update is expected in the second quarter, he added.
Innovation. PepsiCo made a strong showing in Nielsen’s 2018 Top-25 Breakthrough Innovation list. Lifewtr, Crystal Pepsi and Mtn Dew Pitch Black all emerged from among 3,500 consumer products reviewed. Other beverages making the list include Core Hydration premium bottled water (soon to be acquired by Keurig Dr Pepper), and Danone North America’s Stok Cold Brew Coffee. Criteria for selection
Kantar Ranking. PepsiCo and Coca-Cola were awarded the top two spots respectively in Kantar’s annual supplier PoweRanking. The two have held those slots for three years now. PepsiCo placed first in all nine metrics for the ranking. Nestle came in at No. 7. Among retailers, Walmart was ranked No. 1.
